Got Questions? Here are some answers.

Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
When is homework due?
Beginning this year students in room 28 will only bring home what was not finished in class for homework. The only activity I will ask your students to complete each night is to spend at least 30 minutes reading. This can be done just before they go to bed or even as an unwinding activity coming in from an afternoon of play and adventure in the outdoors.
During the school day your child will be kept busy both physically and mentally. When they arrive home they need time to play outside with their friends and experience the joys of being a child. This is becoming increasingly more difficult these days with all of the challenges of family life. My hope by removing nightly homework assignments, is that your child's and your stress level will decline and more importantly help our students be engaged, excited, and ready to learn.
When does my child go to P.E.
P.E. is conducted by the 3rd grade team for the fist half of the year and then by a PE teacher for the second half of the school year. Please make sure that your child comes to school in comfortable shoes or brings a pair of
tennis shoes to change into. SANDALS ARE NOT PERMITTED!
When does my child go to the Library?
We go to the library on THURSDAYS. Please help
your child remember to bring his/her book that day to be returned or
re-checked out for an extended period of time.
Will my child be learning any specific skills on the computer?
Yes, this year our students will using i-Pads both in and outside of the classroom. This will allow the students the opportunity to improve many skills related to computers including, word processing, Slides, Database, and keyboarding
skills.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD CHARGES THEIR IPAD AND THEN BRINGS IT TO SCHOOL EACH DAY!
Your child will use Clever to log-in to ALL of their classroom websites. We will also be using Google Classroom to help facilitate many of our assignments. By logging into Clever first, they will have access to their drive and documents anywhere the internet is available.
Will all children receive the Pride of the Lions Award?
This year Pride of the Lions will only be given out once a month.
This award is only given out to students who truly deserve to receive it. It
is not an award that is simply given out for the sake of making sure every
child gets it. It's EARNED. I usually give out the award to students who go above
and beyond. In other words students who get good grades in class will NOT
get the award because getting good grades is expected. However, a child may
receive the award if they were to help another student find their way if they
were lost. Not because its expected, but because its the RIGHT thing to do.
What is the best way to get in touch with Mr. Brewer?
The fastest and easiest way to reach me is via e-mail. I check it constantly
through out the day and from home at least once a day. I also check it over
the weekend so if you suddenly come up with a burning question don't
hesitate to send it to me. Also you can reach me through our classroom communication
app, "Remind" or through the SeeSaw app.
How do I pay for my child's lunches?
The best way is to send in a check for the amount you want credited to your
childs account and I will send it on to our Food Services person at our school.
You should also visit the TVUSD website for more information.
What can I bring in to celebrate my child's birthday?
With the limited amount of time we have in each school day along with an increased
concern over allergies, parties and celebrations at school are not conducted. We will however recognize your
child's birthday and acknowledge this in class.
Will my child miss anything important if they aren't in school today?
Each and everyday of school contains valuable learning so of course your child will
miss out on activities if they take time off. All children need to be in school
as often as possible and should never miss school in order to go on a trip
early, or to go to places such as Disneyland, beach, river or the desert. One
bit of information most parents are not aware of is that if your child is out
of school for the day, the school does NOT receive funding for that day. This
may not seem like much, but the school looses over $200 every time your child
is not in school.
How much time should my child spend reading each night?
We want your child to develop a love of reading. In order to help nudge them along we suggest a minimum of 20-30 minutes four times a week. Remember that most homework a student has is simply work that was not completed in class and we never want them to associate homework and reading together..
When is the best time to meet to talk about my child?
I arrive at school by 7:15 a.m. each and everyday. I am always available to discuss
your child's progress or concerns you have. Simply send me an e-mail or call me
and we will arrange a day and time that works best for you.
How can I tell how my child is doing in class?
You have lots of ways to stay in touch with how your child is progressing throughout the school year. One of the easiest ways is to have a nightly conversation with your child about what they did in class that day. This should not be a simple, "How was your day?" type of question, but rather one that invokes a more detailed response from your child.
" Tell me what you did in class today?
What did you talk about during math, reading, writing, science, etc?
What is one thing you learned today that surprised you?
Using simple questions that require a yes or no response make it difficult for your to obtain information about what your child learned on any given day.
Another way to monitor your child's performance is by logging into Infinite Campus and checking your child's grades. These are the most recent and up-to-date results and provide you a snapshot of your child's performance so far.
Every Wednesday your child will bring home what we call the Wednesday Envelope. Inside you can find important information about upcoming events at school along with assignments your child has completed.
