Scholastic Book Orders
"The more you read, the stronger the student you become." I fully believe in this ideology. I have watched over the past 28 years that the more my students read, the stronger they become academically. I have seen study after study support this idea and more importantly I have heard it straight from my students' mouths.
Scholastic offers parents the opportunity to purchase books at a reduced rate while providing their children the chance to get lost in a great book instead of a video game. Over the years Scholastic has helped to build my classroom library. Currently I have over 1500 titles for my students to choose from. Many of these books came from points that I earned as parents purchased books for their children. One quarter of these books are used for Literature Circles. The others are there for students to check out and read.
Each month I will send home with your child a Scholastic Book Order. They are given time in class to look through the order form and circle books they're interested in. I also take the time to discuss books and authors that I know they may enjoy as well. At certain times throughout the school year Scholastic offers amazing deals on the number of bonus points a teacher receives. August and September are the two biggest months for these points. Points are awarded to teachers depending on the total amount of money spent on any one classroom order. In August and September, if a class spends more than $300.00, they are awarded 10,000 bonus points. Those points are enough to purchase 10-15 new sets (group of 6 books) of Literature Circle books for our students. This is easily accomplished if each family were to spend $15.00 on books. The books you buy benefit your child and points awarded to our classroom benefit your child as well. Its a Win/Win for everyone.
Ordering the books is easy. You have two options:
1. Using the order form that was sent home you can simply select the books your child wishes to order and then send the form back in with a CHECK (no cash please) made out to Scholastic.
2. The second option is an online option:
